Sup babes!
I descended from the MDMA mountains of Colorado and landed in a mushroom mansion tucked in the hills of LA, spending a week living with Shroom Mom, the most fabulous drug dealer I’ve ever known. My time with Shroom Mom transformed the way I think about motherhood, so I wrote about her this week, in an essay that also circles around: the psychedelia of pregnancy, the drug dealer paradigm, my druggie sexcapade with a fentanyl fuckboy, House Mothers in vogue culture, my ab*rtion, smoking DMT above Bossa, and the pussy as a portal.
What else has been popping in Lhooqland?
I bopped to Austin for a luxury ketamine sound bath and swooped to a weed business conference in Northern California that was basically the Coachella of cannabis AKA WEEDCHELLA (details forthcoming, obvi!) How the hell did I do all that? I’m just gonna say… thank god for my acid microdose spray, the hottest new product on the drug market.
On the Popdust podcast—which covers the intersection of art, activism, and spirituality—host Eden Eden Arielle Gordon and I discussed the spiritual side of psychedelics, the strange future of post-pandemic nightlife, and the healing potential of shared spaces created by collective ecstasy. Thank you Eden!
I was on the local news yapping about LA’s underground psychedelic scene—GAG at ya girl wrapped in 90s Gaultier schooling grandmas about sparkling molly water and the new branding aesthetics of shrooms. Shoutout to Tarik, a Rave New World reader who produces the show and put me on!
KALEIDOSCOPE published a PDF report on Temporary Autonomous Zones that includes essays by DeForrest Brown, Franco "Bifo" Berardi, and moi. My essay was triggered by blackpilled teens on some trendy Discord talking shit about a protest garden in Seattle’s CHAZ/CHOP—the same garden I fled to after a gnarly shooting:
I wanted to tell those teenagers about the shooting that resulted in two teenagers’ deaths at CHAZ, a harrowing night that I’ll never forget. I did not want to tell them that I am a journalist who usually writes about raves and drugs, because I was afraid they would think I’m some dumb party girl who wandered into an autonomous zone and almost got shot. Instead, I wanted to tell them that my friend came to meet me in the parking lot, and a homeless woman living at CHAZ started chatting with us and had pointed out the Big Dipper, so we were staring up at the stars when suddenly there was a loud burst like firecrackers POP-POP-POP-POP-POPPOP-POP-POP-POP and someone screamed, “get down, it’s a gun!”
LANCE, a popular newsletter on freelance culture, did a “Best Newsletters” roundup and called me ONE OF THE GREATEST CULTURAL OBSERVERS AND WRITERS OF OUR TIME 😭 Sometimes I get insecure about being too weird for the mainstream media matrix, but ego boosts like this really do help keep the girlboss juice ON and the gaslight OFF.
Rave New World’s Discord just opened a psychedelics channel! I’m excited about this new chat room, it feels like it's something I've been craving and haven't seen elsewhere on Discord yet: a fun place to share links and shoot the shit about the latest psychedelics news that catch our (third) eyes. The Discord is currently accessible via a private invite link that you receive once you subscribe, and I’d love to chat with you guys there about doing a collective microdosing journey in October.
